A source of concern for many women, the perfect breasts are part of the ideal beauty often defined by the fantasies of fashion, and it comes as no surprise that the number of women now having breast enlargement to enhance their figure is growing.
Since its inception, breast augmentation (also called augmentation mammoplasty) has evolved considerably thanks to the constant technological advances and its popularity. Today's woman considering breast augmentation want discreet and natural-looking results that allow her to feel more confident about her appearance.
Breast Augmentation: Make an informed decision!
Your decision to have your breasts enlarged is a very personal one. Weather you believe your breasts are too small or have lost their volume due to significant weight loss, breast implants may be the perfect solution for you.
Breast Implants: What size should I choose?
Does the perfect breast size exist? The decision to get breast implants may be easy. However, the size of the implant is a much more difficult one. The definition of ideal breast size is highly subjective. It is based on individual’s opinion and every woman will have their own unique needs and expectations. While some women want their breast enlargement to be subtle in order to give a natural look, others may wish for a more noticeable or larger look.
Neither approach is more correct than the other; there is no "one size fits all" solution. Your breast enlargement procedure can be tailored to achieve a look that meets your realistic expectations and compliments your age, existing body shape and size. The best thing to do is to arm yourself with information, and then work with your doctor to make this all-important decision.
Breast Implants: What should I consider?
There are many things you should consider when deciding what breast implant would be perfect for you. Breast implants are manufactured by different companies in many varieties of filler, size, volume, shape and surface texture - all to suit many different individual needs.
As part of the pre-operative consultation process, Dr Guertin will use his extensive experience and expertise to help you choose the perfect implant. The following factors will each play a role in the decision making process:
- Age, body shape and size
- Existing breast size and shape
- Desired look
- Amount of sagging or drooping (ptosis) of existing breasts
- Amount and integrity of natural breast tissue
- Lifestyle and physical activity
You will also be given an opportunity to look at, feel and try on samples of the various implants available to you (known as breast implant sizers). This is an effective way to determine which implant is best suited for you and what you will look like after your augmentation surgery.
The Surgery: What to expect
In general, the surgery is a one-day procedure and like all surgical interventions, complications can occur. In the majority of breast augmentation surgeries, an incision is made either in the crease, under the breast, around the areola, or under the armpit and the implant will be placed above or below the breast muscle.
Post Surgery: Recovery times
Recovering from your surgery is dependent upon various factors. In general, you can return to your normal life activities in approximately two weeks and physical activities can be resumed after four to six weeks.
